We will update this page as often as we learn of new
features added or existing features modified. Please
let us know of any additions or corrections needed.
If you have any questions at all about using these
symbols or commands in conference, please ask
our Conference Manager for assistance.
Conference Commands and Options
DelphiForums provides a robust list of conference
features for us. Most options are available from
a drop down menu seen when you click on the name
another patron from the room list on the right of
the screen. There are also several command line
options available.
Membername List and Options
The names of everyone in the room appears on the
right side of your screen. Clicking on one
of these names yields a drop down menu with the
following available options:
Launch Profile, Private Message, Whois, Ignore, Unignore
These options, inline commands, and other buttons
available on the Chat Screen are described below:
Actions [/act]
Actions are a way to speak in the third person. If a user
SWEETY_PIE types "/act launches a peanut at Lou",
"SWEETY_PIE launches a peanut at Lou" will be
displayed for all to see.
Leaving A Chat Room [/quit]
Normally, people say goodbye and simply leave a chat
room by closing the chat window (Click on the
"Close" button the top
of the chat screen,) or by shutting down their
browser or computer. But there is also a special
'action' you can use to exit a room. It allows you
to leave a message as you leave.
If a user BAGGYPANTS types "/quit to get a good
night's sleep.", the user will exit the room and
"BAGGYPANTS has quit -- to get a good night's
sleep" will be displayed for those remaining in
the room to see.
Copy/Paste
It's not currently possible to copy/paste from the chat
window in chat. Paste from an outside source will work
as long as you don't exceed 400 characters, or have
any hard returns in your copy. We hope that
DelphiForums will give us the ability to copy/paste
with carriage returns in the future. (Until they do,
our Poetry Night conferences will take place at an
off-Delphiforums site.)
Nicknames (/nick)
For paying members of DelphiForums, nicknames can
be changed on the fly! If you want to be seen as
"Alice" in conference, simply type
"/nick Alice" We think this feature
should be available to all patrons of Callahans
Show Real Names (/showrn)
Because nicknames can be changed on the fly, you
may want to see the actual membername of those in
a room. You can do so dynamically bytoggling this
feature ON. When you type "/showrn"from the
command line, you will see the speaker's actual
membername along with the nickname you normally see.
And it's a toggle. That is, type "/showrn"
again to disable the feature.
Whois
You can also see the real membername of someone
in the room by selecting a name from the name
list on the right of the screen, and selecting
"Whois" from the drop down menu.
Whispers
To Whisper is to send an inline private message
to another person. To do so, type your message,
then select the person you wish to send it to
from the list of those in the room with you.
Make sure the correct person's name appears in
the window adjacent to the Whisper button before
clicking on it..:)
Private Messages
From the drop down menu, selecting "Private
Message" opens a new window and you may have
a private dialoge with the person in the new
window.
It's usually better to use the whisper button for
private messages because when the new PM window pops
up on the recipient's screen, anything they may be
typing is redirected to the new window. This is
annoying and it *could* be embarrassing..:)
Ignore/Unignore
If you want to not see what a particular patron
is saying in chat, you can select "Ignore"
from the drop down menu on that person.
Profiles
Profiles are pop up windows where you describe yourself
to others. We ask that you review our
Safety Pages before you decide to fill in your
profile..:)
To view a person's profile, click on "Launch
Profile" from the drop down menu.
Private Rooms
You can't make an already-open room private, but
we have set up a permanent room in our
forum named "Private Room - Invitation
Only" If you (or any patron) need to speak
to someone privately, you can always enter the
private room.
Telnet, Web TV
Neither platform is supported under the pChat
conference module. Web TV may or may not work.
Known pChat bug:
Some patrons cannot see the typing bar. To resolve
this, try one of the following:
a. Change your screen resolution to 800 x 600
b. Drag the top of your chat screen up by
clicking and dragging.
c. If you are using MS Internet Explorer, try
resizing your chat window.
d. Move your task bar to the side of the screen,
by clicking and dragging.
If none of these things correct the problem, please
post on our board so we may help resolve the
problem.
