We do have lots of rooms, don’t we ? We try to have 'tenders
present as often as possible to keep the rooms troll-free,
too..:) Feel free to move about from room to room as needed.
They exist to try to meet your needs. First,
a little background:
We have scheduled nightly chats.. this is
our latest calendar of events. On
each of these nights, the tender on duty will often have a
theme or topic in mind. Many times the topic will go along
with our monthly theme.
Note that some conferences, like the "Speculations"
conference every third Sunday of the month always
has a theme or question to consider.
We also hold special conferences regularly.
These are conferences in which we often invite guest speakers
to explain something or answers questions about a specific
topic or issue. Or they may reflect a specific interest
that a group of patrons share - and which some patrons may
have no interest in..
We publicize special conferences on our message board
and add them to the chat calendar when they are scheduled.
We try hard to stick to the topic when we have a special
conference and ask that those who may have little interest
in the topic to join one of the rooms described below.
In addition to the scheduled rooms that change daily, we
have additional rooms which are available all the time.
They are:
Our standard, normal, regular room is "Callahan’s
Saloon ~ All Welcome." We encourage anyone to
enter it at any time. You may want to post on the message
board that you have opened the room so others will know you’re
there and join you. But even if you don't "announce"
that you're in it, someone will soon join you..:)
This is probably the room to choose if you don't care to join
a moderated or special conference.
"The Lantern is Lit in Callahans"
room was established soon after the Sept 11th tragedies in
New York City and Washington. We all give and receive comfort
in different ways. Many people needed to come to Callahans to
avoid the tragedy, by getting away from the "real
world." But also, some people needed to talk and share
their pain after the tragedy. This room will remain as long
as the patrons need to share what’s going on in their lives -
for any reason. The tone of this room is quieter - more
reflective - a place, perhaps, to find solace.
The "Rooftop Patio" or
"Poolside Chat" rooms exists so that
those who may may not want to participate in a conversation
based on a topic, such as Punday Night, or a theme based
chat. Usually only one or the other of these two rooms is
available. Newcomers may also use this room if they find
the conversation in the 'main' room scrolls too fast to
enjoy.
The "Private Room - Invitation Only"
room is just that - Private. A place
where two or more people can talk about personal things, or
whatever they like. Please do not enter that room without
an invitation.
It should be noted that this is the perfect room in
which to hold a private conversation with a long lost friend,
for example. By using this room, you won't disrupt others
in a general conversation room and others won't disrupt your
catching up..:)
