Valentines's 2000 Winning Poetry

We had more entries to this year's contest than ever before. Our first place poem, Remembered Joy, has the distinction of being written jointly by Chad (SHEAR2) and Vickie (MIDUSTOUCH.) Our second place poem is Falling In Love by Diane Hamilton, who has won honorable mention here in the past.

There was a fine crop of Honorable Mentions as well.

Soon after the contest ended, Cortland published the following ditty:

The Valentine's contest is over,
And now it is time for the judge
To select from the verses submitted,
The roses that grow in the sludge.

Beware all ye editors weary,
Take heed all ye SYSOPS so bold;
By the time you have read all those stanzas,
You will find love to seem rather old.

The Valentine's contest is over;
One talented writer will win.
The rest plot in silence, all waiting
For next year's contest to begin!

So the Valentine's contest is over?
You have just enough time to prepare.
For another will come while you're resting
Take your ease while you can, have a care!

Cortland (KA5S) 2/13/2000
