Callahan's January 1999 Bar Rag!"To Callahan's warmth
| |||||||||||||||
Here's to Friends and those we call Family... 1998 - what a wonderful year! Our community grew by leaps and bounds. We have many wonderful new friends from around the globe and our message board, conferences and website are all thriving. We have many new tenders, volunteers selected from among our new friends, sharing their time to help spread sharing into the community and we've begun new traditions of holiday giving..of ourselves. I am humbled when thinking of how much I owe so many and my gratitude goes out to each of you as we start this new year. Thank you. Sharper eyed readers will notice that the Bar Rag slogan has been changed. We had such a heart-felt post from DarkEyes with a quote that so exemplifies what we hope Callahan's is all about that we had to make it our new slogan. What do you think? Lou We have a new website look! Kathy has given us a simpler web page with happier images and a warm, friendly look. The rave reviews are in and we hope you agree..:) Our collaborative sonnet, "November" written on the message board by six authors was added to our site this month. As was more of Callahan's Poetry in the form of "brewkaister's haiku" by BREWKAISTER and "My First Night" (by SIRWILL) And the following patrons were added to our Patrons Page:
Sylvia Ann (RUBYP) The big news this month is the re-establishment of Punday Nights. Nanc, Moby and Jim have worked out a plan to have a contest of sorts with winners.. getting a free night's tab...:) Check it out every Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. eastern. Lou will be hosting a Spider Night conference every Friday night in January. Topics will include Spider and his Writing, Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, MindKiller and anything else Spidery..:) Every Friday night at 9:00 p.m. eastern. Our very own Tracy (dove1) returned to the forum this month and picked up where she left off :) She married the first guy she met in the saloon (highlander1). Those spare wedding dresses that she keeps in the closet came in handy. The next week Highlander married Paula (PGPG) and Tracy was the matron of honor and a great reception followed. Will Tracy marry again, will Highlander? Will the three of them continue to share nicely? Stay tuned :) The pre holiday decoration party was a success. We came up with quite an eclectic Saloon :) Moby contributed snowflakes on the glass behind the bar and the windows and a string of Dilbert and Dogbert lites. Patti was in charge of stringing popcorn and cranberries and decorating Mike :) Maxbaron put up some garland and Dennis added a pine garland on the fireplace mantel. Lather added a ristra which we learned is a wreath of dried hot peppers. Mitzi added parrot and chili pepper lites. Carrie, Angelica and Andrea also helped with tinsel and such. We had great eggnog and lots of nice food and good music. And who brought the mistletoe and why did James quiver when it came out? In the wee hours, it turned into a jammie party when Moby took us to bed with him. <EG> One night Tracy asked us to help her with a contest that she was entering. We had to list famous couples. The list went from the ridiculous to the sublime but we did come up with over 150 names. Hope Tracy wins! Beth and some of the Callahan's women took over the first floor of the saloon one night and formed the Cal's Babes. Don't know what they did at the gathering but laughter could be heard from on the roof. December was a another banner month on the board..with the Caring Tree, Biblioholics Synomymous, haikus, High Coos, Themed Haikus, Dueling Poetry, a greeting card war, posts on the most profound events of the 20th century, and rissatoo turning up missing. Leave it to rissatoo to go oxymoronic on us..:) Birthday Greetings were heartily extended to:
