Opening Toast

Here's to the man who is wisest and best.
Here's to the man whose Judgment is blest.
Here's to the man who's as smart as can be.
Here's to the man who agrees with me! -- Anonymous

Manager's Corner

Happy holidays to all!

There are several staffing changes to announce this month and I'm pleased about each of them. We have three new tenders and a new Website Manager. This means Callahan's will be an even safer place for people to visit, and that our Website will become livelier, funnier and easier to navigate. You'll find the more, including the names of our new tenders and Website Manager, below.

Operation Butterball was a huge success thanks to the efforts of rissatoo, our Message Board Manager, and the donations of Callahanians worldwide. Well over 300 food gifts were donated, blowing away our goal of 250. Operation Butterball is going to become a tradition at Callahans, after all, sharing is one of the hallmarks of Callahan's Place.

Enjoy the holiday season everyone..:)

Lou

Website News

Please welcome KathyC as our new Website Manager. Kathy operates two other Delphi forums Business Strategies and Investors) and is in the web design business - which means she's an HTML whiz. Expect a lot of new things on our Website. And to start with, we added a new Pun Pages area to our No Pun In 10 Did page on The Wall this month. Enjoy...:)

And don't forget, we maintain all of our Previous Bar Rags for your reading enjoyment.

Conference News

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Beth, Patti and Moby as new Callahans tenders. Beth can be found in conference at all hours and sometimes in disguise..:) Patti is Mike's sister and can most often be seen in conference Saturday nights with Mike. Moby is a constant presence and is very well versed in the Callahan's stories.

All three have vibrant personalities and have made a commitment to help maintain our traditions allowing new visitors to find a safe, tolerant environment. Please welcome and thank Beth, Patti and Moby when you see them.

Our scheduled conferences provided a good deal of laughter this month and our Poetry Conference has been particularly well attended..

Bo dropped by to announce the formation of a new religion. Members believe in a Supreme Being, but don't want to get involved..:)

Nanc, as we all know, is running for President. There was yet another attempt to draft a Vice-Presidential running mate for her. This time it was Bo - thinking he would bring the 'religious' vote to the ticket..:)

Message Board News

November was Operation Butterball month here at Callahan's. We asked everyone to help us reach a goal of 250 gifts pledged to local food banks and charities. And not only did we reach the goal, we surpassed it! A total of 337 gifts were pledged, equivalent to 1,348 canned goods, or 1,011 dinners donated! A great big 'THANK YOU!' to all who participated! (post 32784)

We seem to have a new club here at Cal's... It's called Biblioholics Synonymous and Kirwand is our Grand Pooh-Bah! :) So far, the membership includes:

rissatoo, Ambrel, VCrumble, DarkEyes, Pewter Pot, kestrel, Crowley Gary, Kaelanna, Lou, Storm, Chris, Mishi and Will. We're still waiting for our fearful... er, um, I mean 'fearless' leader to take charge & explain his vision of the club. All we're certain of right now is, it involves a love of books and reading, and consuming milk and cookies! :) post 32265)

Lou shared Happiness with us, to remind us not to wait to be happy. Happy isn't going to come 'some day'. There's happiness to be found every day, if we only look for it. (post 32773)

We heard from Selena... it's seems we'll be seeing less of her... You see, after completing her armed forces obligations, she declared she would get a real job When Pigs Fly, so, she was kinda obligated... Where's she working? In a small used bookstore called... The Flying Pig! :) Can you believe it? (I know I'm going to watch what cliches I use in the future! LOL!)

Lou has started his holiday card campaign. His Christmas Card Struggle began this year, when his neighbor threw down the 'I've-already-received-two-cards' gauntlet. Won't you please help him 'kick her butt' (in the spirit of peace and friendship... :)) by sending him a 'Season's Greeting's card?

We giggled over new humor postings. In particular, singing The Turkey (post 32564) to the tune of 'My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean', caused Carrie's dogs to think her completely crazy. :) We also laughed over Preschooler's Property Laws and the Basketball Relief Fund.

Then Roxy rambled in with the story of her and Bear's adventures in Llama 101. Who knew there were llamas in New Mexico? *giggle*

WalkerJoe shared some rather Creative Writing with You're in the Army Now, and Jhrdwyn shared a halloween story by Alibra.

We have several new poets in our midst, and they have the Poetry Topic jumping! We have tons of haiku and it looks like Pewter Pot has authored a new poetry form, High Kudos, which may take a little practice! We also have a collective Shakespearean Sonnet going on, and anyone is free to start their own collective poem.

New and exciting poetry was offered this month by: Selena, bard, Kirwand, KathyC, DarkEyes, Pewter Pot, BunkerBob, Peter, Marywood (now MaryB13), Lou, Kaelanna, roughroad, daniel111, Storm, Moby, rissatoo, Cortland, MacSharp and Tygerrrbee.

Pun of the Month

Medieval Geometry

There were three Medieval kingdoms on the shores of a lake. There was an island in the middle of the lake, which the kingdoms had been fighting over for years. Finally, the three kings decided that they would send their knights out to do battle, and the winner would take the island.

The night before the battle, the knights and their squires pitched camp and readied themselves for the fight.

The first kingdom had 12 knights, and each knight had 5 squires, all of whom were busily polishing armor, brushing horses, and cooking food.

The second kingdom had 20 knights, and each knight had 10 squires. Everyone at that camp was also busy preparing for battle.

At the camp of the third kingdom, there was only one knight, with his squire. This squire took a large pot and hung it from a looped rope in a tall tree. He busied himself preparing the meal, while the knight polished his own armor.

When the hour of the battle came, the three knights sent their squires out to fight (this was too trivial a matter for the knights to join in). The battle raged, and when the dust cleared, the only person left was the lone squire from the third kingdom, having defeated the squires from the other two kingdoms.

This just proved that the squire of the high pot and noose is equal to the sum of the squires of the other two sides.

Closing Quote

"Be civil to all, sociable to many, familiar with a few, friend to one, enemy to none."
