To Callahan's - and the new friendships I make every time I come here! Jim Crowley April 21, 1998 We've been giving serious thought to having another Callahan's Gathering this fall. The Gathering I attended in Sarasota, Florida was great fun. It is really nice to get to meet in person those folks who you've come to know and admire online. The conference would be in the fall and probably in either Tennessee or Florida. Let me know if you're interested in attending..:) We've been hearing good news from Delphi about their financial status. Traffic is way up and they're even upgrading their computer equipment to keep up with all of us..:) If you're reading this on the Web and did NOT receive your emailed copy, you must now email me with an email address to send it to. Delphi has implemented anti-spam software and I cannot send the Bar Rag to your free Web account names anymore. Sorry about that but this is to prevent spammers from getting to you - and the lack of spam on Delphi Internet is well worth it! It's really a good reason to get a premium account here. Our readers have provided us a wealth of new humor this month and we've added it to the to the Wall. The Irish Toasts page has also been greatly expanded. Enjoy them both! I note with some relief that our conferences are settling down and that it's becoming a bit easier to get to know one another now. I've had several recent conferences that reminded me a lot of the old days here on Delphi. Conferences that were relaxed, friendly and fun. Thanks to all of you who are making this happen! Dennis (GRIBBIN) told us that he has taken a new job with the same company and in the same city. So far he's found the work interesting and he's happy with the move. Good luck Dennis with the new responsibilities! Some of our political discussions on Amendment 10 and the Constitution finally petered out. Lou continued to hammer home the theme that the United States government is too large and too deeply in debt. Others on the board thought that view a bit compassionless. Many new Irish Toasts were made this month and added to our Website. Sleepy, aka Lois, made a wonderful toast to Callahan's which generated an interesting thread. Here is an excerpt from her post: " It is a place where I'm not afraid to be myself, where I don't have to hide behind a mask of forced conversation when I really don't feel like talking. Yet, it is a place where I can talk if I wish, good news, bad news, jokes or serious, it is all accepted here, no one openly pries, but you are here for when I need a hug or a shoulder to cry on, or a sympathetic ear to listen, or to share good news or a bad pun or a funny joke. Here people will listen, and try to help if they can. It is a nice feeling, a safe and secure at home kind of feeling." Thanks Sleepy! Shady stunned the entire community by posting our first ever multimedia message. A photo of her grandson Gabe, dancing to the Chicken Dance! Way to go, Shady. Several patrons shared their life difficulties with us and received loads of advice - mostly on how to get *better* advice from those competent in the required skills. It was gratifying to see so many reaching out to help. We also received new poetry from Jason, JBECKER1 and T.J. (AIDROCSID). Ken (CRSCOMP) and Sleepy (LPLAV) also danced a bit in poetry. And of course, Cortland (KA5S) continued to delight us with his poetic efforts! And Nick, aka Cloud9 (NFM), slew a mighty vibrating beastie! Curt (ABSARKA) informed us that, "I've just learned that Spider & Jeanne Robinson will be Guests of Honor at ConCat 10 in Knoxville, Tennessee this coming Thanksgiving Day weekend, Nov. 27-29, 1998. As Lou noted above, we may try to hold a Gathering of Callahanians there! Curt has invited us all and Deanna (BOOKSFAN) has already expressed interest on leading a group for the event. Janice returned to us after a short hiatus for surgery. She is recovering nicely. Selena, SILLIEST, recently moved to Dublin and is now posting to us from there. Big News! Ken conducted a successful Poetry Night (Party) in Peter's absence. Way to go, Ken! And finally, Nick (NFM) began a discussion on abortion which, to date, has generated over 100 posts, and not one of them a flame! Lou expressed his gratitude to our current patrons for discussing this hot button topic while remaining calm and friendly. Birthday Greetings were heartily extended to:
A farmer named Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with a pet dog he doted on. The dog finally died and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked if the priest would say a mass for the animal. Father Joseph replied, "No, we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there's a new denomination down the road, they might be willing to do something for your dog." Muldoon said, "I'll go right now. Do you think $50,000 is enough to donate for the service?" Father Joseph asked, "What? Why didn't you tell me the dog was Catholic?" Untitled
