Callahan's Legacy, written by Spider Robinson, picks up where Callahan's
Touch left off. The setting is Mary's Place, the bar that Jake
Stonebender opened after the great explosion took out Mike's Place. All
of the regular patrons are there as well as the newcomers from Callahan's
Touch.
Remember Ernie Shea, the Pooka who was called "the Lucky Duck?"
How about Naggeneen, the cluricaune who could drink an unlimited amount of
alcohol. Also Nikola Tesla, the scientist that we met at Lady Sally's
Place stops in for a visit. We get to know Solace, the computer
intelligence who operates from the Mac in the bar. Even wonder how Doc
Webster the punster and Fast Eddie the piano player came to Callahans?
They share their stories with us.
What would a day at Mary's Place be without some new visitors who are in
pain. As you may expect, through songs, jokes, puns, and palindromes (all
the chapter titles are palindromes) the patrons in Callahan's Legacy share
and diminish their pain and share and increase their joy.
There are some surprise visitors from the past and a foe all the patrons
must join together telepathically to resist. And even the newest
Stonebender gets into the act.
Callahan's Legacy is a fun book as all of the Callahan's Crosstime Saloon
stories are. Don't miss this, the last book written on the subject. At
the end of the book Robinson talks about the various cyberbars on the net.
He specifically mentions the newsgroup, alt. callahans.
