Okay, so I am in an incredibly lucky spot since I have just
reread ALL the Callahan's series in order and now give my
views on the latest. Disclaimer: just my opinions here :)
"Callahan's Con" is a welcome addition to the
Callahan series. As usual, well written with an abundance
(overabundance for some I fear) of puns. It has all the regular
characters I like to see but is missing some I would have
liked to see.
I felt about this Callahan's story like I do about my favorite
red shoes. When I got them every time I put them on it was WOW.
I just LOVED those shoes. Then they got broken in, comfortable,
and a bit scuffed. I still loved the shoes but it wasn't quite
LOVE.
"Callahan's Con" has all I have come to expect of the
series. And that might be my view - having come to expect
outstanding it would be hard if not impossible to meet the
expectation.
I really enjoyed the book. I liked the plot twists and the
incredible way Spider Robinson handles many events and characters
without losing the basic story. It didn't quite grab me the way
the earlier books did. I am glad I read it and enjoyed getting to
know Jake better. I think the death was sad and handled very
well - melancholy but with acceptance and love. It felt real.
"Callahan's Con"is a good read and welcome addition to
the series. And I especially like the allusion to another Callahan
book to come. I think any Callahan is worth reading and this is
no exception.
