Here's a collaboration on an arrangement of a classical
music piece, done by my brother Jamie and I. Jamie did
most of the arranging, I made the style changes into and
out of swing style, added slides and bends to the bass
part and revoiced the piece for jazz trio.
It's
Beethoven's
opus 61... sort of a late birthday card for Ludwig...
and a lot of fun. :)
I got fired up to write a piece of Christmas music... in
the style of music from Brittony.
Joyeux Noël
is the result. *Warning!* This is very
loud! If you've got good speakers, turn em down before
you start to listen to the piece!
My brother Jamie debuted one of his compositions,
Musicbox March
was played by the San Jose Brass Band. I'm posting
Jamie's piece with permission. It's a bit long, but a
fun listen..:) May I brag a bit? To date, all of my
siblings (and I) have been featured as composers,
soloists, or conductors.
Miss
McLeod's Reel is as popular an American fiddle tune as
it is a Celtic favorite..:)
This is an early composition that I did in collaboration with
MIDI composer Christopher E. Ralph. Chris is a neat guy who
lives in the Carolinas where he works too many jobs. This
piece is meant to evoke the african safari, and is named
appropriately,
Safari.
Tielman Susato (1561-1600) was a Flemish composer whose
work was never very popular, though imo he's one of the
great Renaissance composers. Here's
a suite of
dance tunes, by Tielman Susato.
This is my second attempt at writing jazz melodies. Hopefully
it won't make your skin crawl. Silly names are a bebop
tradition, which is why I named this
Tyranosaurus
Wrecks, A weird name for a weird tune.
Space came
as a result of a request/suggestion from Bits that I provide
suitable 'elevator' music for Callahan's " Skyhook"
den. After shuddering over the possibilities inherent in
composing 'elevator' music, I set out to compose something
that was, well, 'spacey.' It was a fun composition to do.
I don't usually think in terms of synthesizers...
Mariana is
a piece of music I wrote for the wife of a friend of mine.
She's an awesome musician, a notable percussionist, and a
graceful dancer. She deserved a tune... so I wrote one.
"Mariana" was the result.
This Bach piece (Gmin Fugue 542) is something my brother
Casey arranged. Maddened by the unthinking callousness of
musicolgists who *assume* that music written for the
"Well Tempered Clavier" as meant to only meant to
be played for the clavier, he set out to prove them wrong.
I think he did a good job of it.
Cheshire Rounds/Lancashire Hornpipe is an odd combination of
two traditional English tunes. I chose to arrange them as brass
band tunes, with a lot of percussion. They're designed to make
you sit up, tap your foot and shout 'Huzzah!' These are two
signature tunes of my band. :-)
