The passwords (and most account information) on your computer should be the
most closely guarded online secrets you have. Please do not
give passwords, PIN numbers or any other information that you know should
remain secret to anyone - ever! No reputable company will ever
ask you for your password ever - not DelphiForums, not Google, not Norton - no
one.
We hope it goes without saying that you should also not give such information
to people in chat - whether here in Callahans or elsewhere. You shouldn't give
such information to your mother..:)
If someone contacts you and requests your password, PIN number or account
information in order to "help" you with something, you should simply
refuse to give it. And report the request to the company
presumably asking for the information. If someone asks for such information in
a Callahans chat room, please notify a 'tender immediately -
or write to staff using the link at the top of any website page or at the
bottom of our Start
page.
Remember, if an individual ever asks for your password or PIN number, you can
safely assume they are up to no good, regardless of what they *say.*
There is no good reason to ask anyone for personal account information.
Asking for such will draw the attention of Staff - but more importantly -
protect yourself and please don't give it.
If you access DelphiForums or another site from a public computer, or one that
roommates or others have access to, make sure you don't tick off any
"save this password to the computer" boxes. Some operating systems
ask if you want to save the password on the computer, always respond with
"No" if you're not the only person with access.
Always log out of places like DelphiForums and email accounts, rather than
just closing your browser. This will keep others from accessing your account
by going in right behind you.
When selecting a password, you must consider selecting a strong password.
And finally, if you're a Delphi Plus subscriber, you have 5 MB of web space
available to you. You could inadvertently reveal your password if you do not
code links to images correctly. The path to use to show an image MUST be:
http://people.delphiforums.com/yourmembername/filename
It is *critical* that you not copy/paste any image directly
from the FTP source. If you do, the path will read:
ftp://membername:password/delphiforums/filename, and your password will be
revealed to anyone viewing the image.
Please... take care to secure your passwords and other
sensitive information.
