"And I'd be right honored to have a man of God serve my
booze." Happy Holidays to all..! We've put a bit of holiday music on our top Web page this month to help us all get into the holiday spirit. We've added more holiday drink recipes, as well. There have been a lot of original poetry posted in Callahans in recent months, Peter has selected several to share.... I've just finished re-reading Callahans Crosstime Saloon and took some interesting, I believe, notes this time.. Join us for a discussion on this series of short stories on Friday, December 5, 1997. I hope you all have a happy, wonderful holiday season..! Lou Our scheduled conferences continue strong. We hope to have more "special" conferences as we move forward. If you have an idea for a conference topic, simply email Lou to get the ball rolling. We've had fun times in conference this month and quiet serious discussions as well which is how it should be. We've actually opened a second room a few times so both kinds of conferences can take place at the same time. The use of both second rooms and private rooms is encouraged. And please remember that in Callahans, we don't ignore patrons in pain. Did we mention that Nanc's run for the Presidency continues...? Lou was disqualified as a possible running mate after a horrible character defect, which won't be revealed here, was revealed...:) Janice was considered for for the position for a short time ("Nan And Jan, They're Our Man") but the slogan disqualified her. More later... There were over 700 posts on our forum this month! Lots of sharing and good discussions. We welcomed new patrons and rewelcomed some patrons from "the old days" of Callahan's Saloon. Welcome back; Ken (CRSCOMP, used to be JOKKER), JCurtis (CURTISJ) and Markie (MARKYD). Also, we welcomed newcomers; Karen (TAINTED), Gail (GAIL103), Praton (PRATON), Rissa (REISSABRIANNE), Delina (DELINA), Rachel (RACHELVT) and Patty (PTYL). We had quite a few budding poets share their writings with us. Jeanne (JEANNEK) was especially prolific offering poetry and verse on her felines, reunions, cyberlovers, bathroom trips, taking turns and more. We also enjoyed contributions from Karen, our new patron, and Cameron (HHMCAMERON). We congratulated Peter (PHDESMOND) for winning a poetry slam in Boston. He shared some of his winning entries with us in his Poetry Night conference. On Veteran's Day Mitzi offered "In Flanders Field" to honor our Veterans who have served us well. This led to a discussion about its author John McCrae. Lou welcomed Japers as a new Tender, Japers serves "chicken soup" on Tuesday's 9:00 PM, eastern. Pilgrim Bob offered to serve as Claplain for the place which led to a lively discussion. We decided that Lou would look cute in a monks robe and that some folks wanted to Bar Mitzvah Mitzi! Dennis posted for us the story behind Callahan's Saloon as found on our "What is Callahan's?" page. We had a quite a discussion on football and learned that Jocelyn (JF) had to take a class to learn to stop throwing her shoe at the TV when watching NE Patriots games :) Our discussion on AIDS continued with the focus on whether AIDS is an epidemic. We also continued the discussion on multiculturalism... OKY (OKYOKY) posted the Nelson Mendela Inauguration Speech from 1994 noting that is still apropos today. We also talked about mainstreaming students with disabilities and the fact that Greyhound Busses are not wheelchair accessible. Lou shared a magic spot on the net and Kak had his family pick a card and leave the room before he could figure out how it works. Lou still doesn't have a clue :) Spider Robinson's official Web site now has a permanent link to our Web site. His site will promote our Spider Nite Conferences and we will promote Spider's book tours. Lou also posted an open letter from Spider thanking his fans for the success of his latest book, "The Callahan's Chronicals", and continuing the call for book sales. OKY shared a report on a concert by Paul McCartney called Standing Stone. This is classical, a deviation from his usual work. It was performed at Caregie Hall in NYC.
Birthday Greetings are heartily extended to:
