Callahan's February 1997 Bar Rag!In this issue: First Foot - A New Year's Toast - Conference News - Message Board News - Joke of the Month - Quote of the Month - Joining Callahan's | ||||
February's Bar Rag will be a little skimpy. No, not Ren and Stimpy, just shorter than usual, due to the unexpected departure of Kak ALKAK000, Bar Rag Editor, for parts unknown. Rumors abound, some say he's in Belize writing my unauthorized biography. Others have seen him bungee cord jumping in the Himalayas. Please report any Kak sightings to the authorities, some of our silver is missing. JEANNEK wrote the first message board post of the new year (suspiciously disguised as a toast) to all the patrons of Callahan's: May I wish each reader good luck, good health and good times for 1997.
May you notice how important and necessary you are to everyone else. Jeanne P.S. Scottish tradition requires that a dark haired person bearing bread or some token from their labors be the "First Foot" in home on New Year's Day. If the requirement is met, then those visited may be assured of blessings for the new year, thus I am your "First Foot" and wish you all well ! We all thank you, Jeanne, and wish you a happy and prosperous New Year, too !
Jeanne's First Foot elicited this toast from Angel: I hope you all know how special each and everyone one of you is to me. Very few things make me happier than seeing you in conference every night, and being a part of your lives. You know how difficult of a year 1996 was for me. I can seriously say I wouldn't have known what to do without your friendship and support. You guys make me smile when I think nothing can, I am proud to call you friends.
Here's to a year without fear Smash !! Menstral Singers Update
The following ditty was posted as what the ladies are currently practicing. Neither concert nor conference date have been announced:
Should old decorum be forgot
When hormones rule our lives, my friends
Be careful how you say hello
When hormones rule our lives, my friends Mitzi MITZIPROCTOR hosted a conference on the Naturist lifestyle. The conference was well attended, with about 20 people milling through our doors. Mitzi maintained her poise and usual good cheer through some difficult questions about the naturist way of life. Lou behaved himself the entire conference. Really ! Doc METCALFR hosted a Science question and answer conference, which was lively and interesting. This reporter arrived late and missed the answer as to what causes the Northern Lights. The conference was so well received that Doc has agreed to do it once again this month. Watch our Chat Calendar for details. Peter PHDESMOND continues to host Poetry Night every two weeks with his usual style and penache. Peter's next conference will be this Thursday, February 13, the theme will be love poetry in honor of Valentine's Day. Ivana IVANAC has once again agreed to host an anti-Valentine's conference, providing a counterbalance to the usual gushy lovey mush. Please join either Peter or Ivana, or both, with your own poetry, or listen to their contributions. The discussions in the message board this month got quite lively at times, and ranged from the serious to the lighthearted. There was an ongoing discussion about abortion, welfare, adoption, welfare mothers, and black cultural issues. Please join our discussions at any time, start your own thread, or jump right in honoring black history during Black History Month, and love related topics in honor of Valentine's Day, under the thread Sax and Violins. Callahan's own Algonquin Table Irregular, Hassan LUDICKID's daily quotes have quickly become a popular item on the message board, to the point that complaints were lodged with the management when he *gasp* missed posting one day's quote. Note also the First Foot, New Year's Toast, Joke and Menstral Singers Update herein were all posted on our message board ! Man goes to the doctor. He's sitting there with a carrot in one ear, broccoli sticking out the other ear, two peas up his nose. "Doctor, I'm not feeling well." Doctor replies .... "No wonder! You're not eating right."
"I think that, as life is action and passion, it is required of a man
that he should share the passion and action of his time at peril of being
judged not to have lived." OK, two quotes of the month. :)
"I am little concerned with beauty or perfection. I don't care for
the great centuries. All I care about is life, struggle, intensity. I am
