A Toast To Cherrie and to Mitch! To eternal love, health and happiness! To the way you met! To your friends! And to you both, again! **********SMASH************** June Is For Brides On June 8 Cherrie (WUMING) and Mitch were married in Los Angeles -- absolute evidence that an on-line relationship can blossom -- that friendships and relationships that emerge in cyberspace are every bit as real as those that form in the "real world." Angel (TERRIBAILEY) was the Maid of Honor. Viv, (VIVAIN) her Bridesmaid. Trace (DOVE) and Al (KINETIC) also attended. Another fascinating and telling aspect was that Cherrie, Angel and Viv had never physically "met," and yet this wedding party was already best of friends. And as is apt for weddings, the Bride and her attendants were reportedly drop dead gorgeous. The ensuing party carried on until the wee hours. Poor Al managed to survive the attention of three of Callahan's loveliest ladies. On the assumption that Cherrie was paying more attention to Mitch, of course. All that dancing ... come to think of it Al hasn't been seen from or heard from much since. And we cannot overlook Jeannette, that energetic and oh! so cute flower girl (3 years old by all accounts) who out danced everybody. There are also scattered and unconfirmed reports of Trace and Viv eating crackers (or snickers or cookies) in bed, to keep Angel awake. Other reports said that they were singing to put Angel to sleep. And still others had Angel snoring. And then Viv broke the bed. Use your imagination for the details if you must. There were also tales of Angel selecting practical shoes for the wedding (lace with high heels -- later useful for grocery shopping and chasing twins or dogs.) Of Trace and Angel pretending that they were not themselves when Viv first approached them at the airport, causing Viv some consternation about how she was actually going to recognize them in the crowd. And then of Viv shortening Angel's dress by 10 centimeters! Oh, and there was that plot to get Cherrie totally drunk and to turn the event into a pajama party. Trace has a video tape ... she even filmed the group adjusting their hosiery in the ladies room. She accepts bribes ... by the way. Even Canadian money. Purple. Red is better. Callahan's People Priscilla -- Priscilla worked for Lady Sally, as the bouncer. Tall and statuesque, she was as lithesome and ghostly as a panther. Taking her on in a contest of strength was not recommended. Research of historical records suggests that she visited Callahan's Place while it still existed. Sadly, she left us while assisting in a mission to save the world from destruction. Vivain -- (VIVAIN) Viv is tall, reportedly statuesque, and has an absolutely perfect sense of humor. She also understands what stuff like TCP/IP and PPP and other techie nerd type terms mean. Her melodious voice has a pronounced New York accent, as is appropriate to Callahan's, what with its New York roots. Taking her on in a contest of wits or one-up-man-ship is not recommended. She is persistent. And she is good. But assuredly, she is not the best. Probably close, though. Mickey Finn -- Mickey Finn spawned the Callahan's series of books. He was the subject of Spider's first short story. He was an alien on a mission to destroy the world. He was tall. He was large. And he happened upon Callahan's Place, where he confessed his mission. Non-plussed, Mike and the regulars proceeded to get him so drunk on Scotch that he missed a critical reporting deadline, and the world was saved! At last report he and his wife were farming on the Gaspe Peninsula. Lou -- Lou (ROSE8364) is a long time Callahan's member. He is tall. He drinks scotch. There are unconfirmed reports that he could be from another planet entirely. By confirmed reputation, a gentleman's gentleman. He has an electrifying (or powerful or well grounded) career as an engineer at a power plant. He is one of our Viet Nam vets. Many weekends he can be found camping in the swamp or on the beach ... teaching women how to find their direction. He has been spotted in a conga line in an Irish pub (allegedly a lamp shade was involved.) Forum Notes Only a few new threads formed through June. That does not mean the forum was inactive. To the contrary, several ongoing threads were explored in great detail. "Women in American Society" gradually shifted to the "Tolerance" thread, but the discussion was not diminished. Considerable attention was given to the possible roles of women in the military, from several perspectives. The question of genetically typing people to direct them at an early stage toward a suitable career (whether male or female) was explored. "Strip Clubs are Sexist" also garnered lively discussion, from a variety of perspectives. Doc (METCALFR) initiated an interesting and lively exchange on the use of animals for cosmetic testing. Check out "Animal Rights March in Washington." Clearly, Callahanians have some very strong opinions on some topics and are not afraid to voice them. That's what makes this place so great! Tolerance of other's views, and the conviction to state your own. Deep Thoughts (sorry SNL)
"The only difference between who we are today and who we were five
years ago is the books we read and the people we associate with." Party Time A third gathering is planned for August 23 to 26 in Toronto, ON. The gathering will include a picnic on the Toronto Islands (a short ferry ride from Toronto), a tour of the CN Tower -- the world's tallest freestanding structure, and a day trip to Niagara Falls. Lots of other activities and party opportunities, too. Please make plans to attend. More information is available by e-mailing Kak (ALKAK000). Closing Quote
"I've always tried to write songs that will outlive me. As much as I
hate elevator music, when I hear my own stuff coming out of those tinny
speakers, I know that I have accomplished something that a lot of people
haven't." Umm, Barry, not sure that we have unanimous agreement on that here... not sure we have any, in fact. Staff
