Introduction Welcome once again to Callahan's Bar Rag...the monthly chronicle of news and events at Callahan's Virtual Irish Pub. The September edition features updates on additions to the Database, current Polls, Conference schedules and summaries of our Forum discussions. We're glad to have you join us!Let's start with a toast: "Here is to teachers, to books and to knowledge... to students pursuing the pathway to college." SMASH!!! ** It's Here !! ** The Callahan's Clan Gathering ** The first official Callahan's Clan Gathering will be held in Alexandria, Virginia, on September 22-23, 1995. Festivities will include a reception Friday night, a tour of Washington, DC, on Saturday and a dinner dance on Saturday night. There will also be a brief slide presentation and Q&A session discussing the Internet and WWW navigation (using Netscape) from 4:00-5:00 PM on Saturday. (Please notify KATHYC by Email if you plan to attend.) See the Announcements Section of Callahan's Forum. Kudos!! Congratulations are in order for Gremlin (FREDKLUDY) who has accepted a new position as Program Director for the karate school where he earned his Black Belt. Also we extend Happy Birthday greetings to Jim (1701D), whose birthday was August 3rd; to Matthew (MANDRO), who added another ring on August 21st, and Bob (WEAVERR), whose natal day was August 22nd. Best Wishes!! Update On a sadder note, Bob (WEAVERR) remains hospitalized. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers....and Bob ? We wish you a very speedy recovery ! Tender Of The Month!! September's "Tender of the Month" is Linda (LJDCLARKE) ! Linda has a natural flair for 'tending, and a knack for making folks feel at home. Congratulations, Linda, and thanks for a being a great host! Conference Highlights The highlight of August's Conference schedule was the Shakespearean Ball on August 12th. Patrons disguised themselves as characters from the plays of William Shakespeare, and even spoke in Elizabethan terms ! For instance, there was a lot of "LOLeth-ing" and "BRBeth-ing". <G> Bill (WPACER) hosted a very interesting conference on the naturist lifestyle, which was very well attended. Another popular discussion was Angel's (TERRIBAILEY) conference on Cyberlove. The Sock Hop in early August brought out the jitterbug in many of us... Elvis would have been proud! Poetry Nights in September will be alternating Thursdays and Mondays - the 7th, 11th, 21st and 25th. Don't miss Punday Night every Tuesday, Fillmore Jam on Fridays, and Modem Fever every Saturday night. Watch the banners and the Announcement Section for scheduled Riddles Nights, and other activities. Forum Notes The Forum featured lots of "tech-talk" in August, with discussions of the Netscape Navigator Delphi will be implementing later this year. Several Callahanians are beta testing the new software and although the last word has yet to be said, the consensus is very positive. Relationships were also in the forefront, focusing on communication and reconciliation. In the spirit of Callahan's, the sharing and compassion were heartwarming. The anniversary of V-J Day sparked a lively debate on the treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII, and the present day attitudes of post-war Germans towards Americans and other nationalities. The Myers-Briggs Personality Test was a hot topic, and Kerry (HOTPUP) offered a touching poetic tribute to Mickey Mantle entitled "Delight". (Forum message #9769) Lou's (ROSE8364) Riddle for August has yet to be solved. Here are the clues:

What's New In The Database Bart (BARTREM) has uploaded the "Punk Band List" to the Fillmore Jam section of our database, and there are 3 new GIF files - photos of Dan (IRVIND), and photos by Doug (DMILEWSKI) and Dave (HARRISER). Gateway To The Internet Lou (ROSE8364) invites you to submit Websites or Usenet Discussion Newsgroups to be added to our Internet Gateway.
