November

November. Chilly nights and shorter days
Are greeted gladly, with memory's warmed
Caresses, tripping through the gentle maze,
Through autumn mists, bewitching and charmed.

A cooing dove in the morning light
Yesterday's dalliance flown with the Spring
Returns to seek forgiveness for its flight,
Wings beating warning as the cool winds sing.

A falling leaf in sunset's dying grip
Will cradle-rock to rest upon the earth
Then wait to kiss heaven's eternal lips,
To give in bliss old lies, once dead, new birth.

Winter draws near. If memory proves true
snow angels will fall where fairy rings grew.
