Too Many Times

An Exchange Between Patrons

Too many times I've had to say goodbye
Too many tears Have been shed
So many people I've passed along the way
So many friends
Who have gone.

(A childhood friend passed away as the result of an auto accident yesterday. I don't make friends easily -- once done, though, you can't get rid of me. I don't say goodbye too easily either.

To which a reply:

Once we wore the world,
A shelter curled,
A shade unfurled.

But time does fly,
And friends do die.

Lately the coat is turned to lace,
Each loss a hole in what we know;
We hardly recognize the place
From which we too will go,
Leaving another puzzled as we are,
To weep.
