A Toast For Callahan's

What Callahans has is... people willing to "hear" even the least skillfully crafted efforts AND NOT PUT DOWN THE WRITER, while still offering helpful, kindly put criticism. I saw participation last night that put "in-person" readings to shame -- and the least of it was better than most of what I hear in the bookstore.

I have a toast for you:

Here's to the crew at Callahan's,
Here's to the weaver's art.
Here's to the ones who work the loom,
Here's to a poet's heart.

Bright are the pictures in the air,
Dark are the tales of woe,
Soft are the tears not left unshed,
Hard are the scars that show.

Warm are the hearts that listen,
Chill is the fresh drawn brew.
Sad is the one who shuts the door
When all our sharing's through.

Here's to the crew at Callahan's,
Here's to the weaver's art.
Here's to the ones who work the loom,
And ... Here's to a poet's heart!
