Callahan's Riddle Night Page

In 'Callahan's Secret', there is a tale called "Pyotr's Story." The story has many twists and turns and introduces the concept of Riddle Night at Callahan's. Four categories of riddles are shown and discussed. Here is an excerpt:

"...I saw that it was Riddle Night: The big blackboard stood near the door, tonight's game scrawled on it in the handwriting of Doc Webster. On Riddle Night the previous week's winner is Riddle Master; each solved riddle is good for a drink on the Riddle Master's tab.

The board was headed "PUBLIC PERSONALITIES". Beneath that were inscribed the following runes:

a) Hindu ascetic; masculine profession
b) tramp; crane
c) profligate; cheat
d)span; tavern, money
e) fish; Jamaican or Scottish male, caviar
f) certainly; Irish street
g) handtruck; forgiveness

For the answers, see below.
