Conference News

A Conference/Chat report from Jennie:

It was a hot humid night when people started climbing in. Well, they couldn't have been dropping in because we were on the rooftop. Around here, I guess they could have been dropping in anyway.

I sashayed around and tried to make sure everyone had a full glass and a boa. Amber joined us, but she had a cold. Sorry Amber. Moby checked in from Portland. He makes a wonderful burger! Cameron hopped on in just as I began to serve the frozen treats. fstop came to visit us. Welcome, fstop! Jadoft joined us after a busy that included fuel pumps, grandson and wine. Sounds like a winning combination! JimK kept us company. I did feel the need to take his keys away since I kept pouring rather quickly in his direction. He didn't have car keys with him so I took the house keys. Next party's at Jim's..;) IM and Carol arrived, one on the other's heels. Soon after they arrived demons popped up and people started falling out and popping in. Things got messy for a little bit.

Conversation drifted around to photos from the Gathering and at this point there is only a stray here or there buried in the threads in this folder. KaptnKate has been very busy but made some time for us. I am definitely hoping she makes it to the next Gathering! Moby too! And of course everyone!! But Moby and Kate both missed this past one and seemed to me to be trying to make it to the next one. Maybe it was all my sashaying around ;) Jakester arrived in time for the fried foods buffet. And Carol took us on a magical trip to the shower photo from the Gathering. Unfortunately, everyone was not able to take the trip. I handed Kate a crayon and gave her the address but she said I had to stop talking so she could write it down. Me! Stop talking? Ha! PBWizard waved to me from his home across the river. Which sent chat into a different direction and found us discussing regions and assumptions. Fuzzy came in long enough to help me serve up some more food. I had to keep an eye out over his shoulder. Fuzzy was a great help though and didn't seem to eat too much before he offered them around.

Silky not only made it in to chat with us, but made it in to chat with us repeatedly! Bits even duct taped Silky to the rafters, and remember we were on the rooftop! THAT takes quite some skill!! Dwarvenkind received a pair of harem pants when I began outfitting everyone for the belly dancing.

Which all got started simply because Carol said IM was being too quiet. Jallenecs popped in while we were back to discussing the picture from the shower. Silky is holding the shower thingy (technical term, sorry), Sandy is on the far left, I (Jennie, aka Jes) am in the red shirt and Mandy is in the green shirt, while Lou, seems quite content and Carol is on the right side. Dwarvenkind feels like the trac ball on a missile command game when in chat.

I understand that quite well as I seemed to miss saying good bye to a lot of people because I didn't see them leaving. I shouldn't have had my eyes on the bar and my hands and legs wrapped around the lamp post I guess. But I was having fun! I had a wonderful time and want to thank everyone for coming to the party!!

Message Board News

From Jennie:

The Creative Writing Folder has been bursting lately as we discover some of the things that spur the writing process.

There's always room for your own creative piece but we have also begun two new contribution threads. Just jump on in and add a line or three! We also have some games to keep the mind imaginative.

These things are not strictly Creative Writing, I suppose, but I tend to interpret things creatively ;)

Come play with us!!

And from Carol

July was National Reconcilliation Month and we headed that way !

The best way to find reconciliation is to find what we all have in common and we found lots of that! Have you ever thought Harry Potter could be the talk of the town? Jennie (JENNIELYN810) started us off with Harry Potter 6 and boy did it ever create a stir. Some would say the Harry Potter series was for kids or young adults but it seems all our patrons like something about Harry. Follow the link and give us your opinion of Potter Mania.

Carol(Ladylaughing) polled our denizens with Was Animal House (the movie) a classic? 32 people voted and by unamious decision the answer was, "Yes!" Everyone liked it! While Animal House is in a class of its own, Black and White movies, old war movies, and odd movies from the past are making a comeback with our denizens… Do you have a favorite?

Mandy (Iniondia) and Moby (Moby46) started us on a fascinating discussion in The Dialect Survey Where do accents come in? Can we all say the same thing but in different ways? Join the thread and give us your opinion.

Joke of The Month

A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning.

The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee."

The husband said, "You're in charge of the cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee."

Wife replies, "No you should do it, and besides it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee."

Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me."

So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and shows him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says:

"HEBREWS"

Pun of the Month

Israeli police are looking for a man named Joseph, wanted for looting in the port city of Haifa. The suspect is described as the son of a an ex-nun from Barcelona and a German father.

He was a former flutist and worked occasionally as a farmer. In short, he was

"A Haifa-lootin', flutin' Teuton, son-of-a-nun from Barcelona, part-time plowboy Joe.""

Poem of the Month -
"After The Rain"

Vibrant green filled-with-life
leaves that revel in their new-found clean
as daisies hang their water-laiden heads
and doze lazily, waiting.

The fractured sky, still drenched in grayness
anticipates the impending change
as the warm sun presses the clouds
until finally it breaks through.

Birdsong and tinkling rivulets
serenade me as with squeaky
sandals I stroll through the garden
breathing in the temptuous scents.

The contrast is so awe-inspiring
Bright sun bursting through the gray-hued canvas
reflecting off millions of crystal droplets
that hang like nets from the greenery.

Hopes spring eternal
After the rain.
