In another thread around here somewhere, folks are talking about and sharing their memories of Callahans. It's a wonderful thread and it's warming my heart to read such special and wonderful memories.
Thank you all for sharing them.

It would be remiss of me to not jump in and acknowledge the present as well. For some time now, two very special people have been Callahans' keepers of the night. They've kept the doors open, welcoming new friends and catching up with the old. Because of these two people, the Callahans that we all remember fondly has been open and waiting for those people who have been searching for it, some not even knowing what they were looking for.
They've been the keepers of the laughter, the tears, the zaniness, the serious.

We owe them a debt of gratitude that mere words could never convey. But Jay, Fuzzy... most who know me know that it is a very rare occasion for me to step to the line but I just feel I must.

/act steps to the line...

To Fuzzy and JayJ - who with tender hearts, tender ears and tender hands have kept the fires burning as a beacon to all...Thank you!

Conference News

A Special Reunion Chat report from Carol:

On May 26th, 2005 will remain on our minds for a long time to come. Sandy(MISSS) and Carol (Ladylaughing) worked their magic sending invitations to nearly 400 past and current denizens of Callahans. It was amazing to see all the friendly faces and to get reacquainted with those who we have come to cherish as friends. Wheat kicked off the party and was soon joined by Ace (Wilking) who sang to us all night. Moby came in like a whirl-wind . Okay, so maybe not a whirlwind but there was some tinkering with the browser.

Vickie (Midustouch), Qrs (QRS12) and Walt (WWW3) all arrived about the same time and the hug-fest began. Becky (Robowl) kept knocking at the door but the Delphi Demons were horrible to her.
Vickie (Midustouch),Rob (jedigoodknight) have a new Dalmatian puppy named Zelda. Qrs has a new job to die for - He gets paid to go swimming! Lou (Rose8364) joined us just as Ace toed the line for a toast:

"Here is to the few, the Proud, the Callahanians...
That lived through the first 45 minutes...
May we last until the top of the Hour
And a more profound Toast than this one"
Cheers! *** Smash***

Confessions of real life TV addiction was soon apparent as Lou donned the (What is the neck thing?) and became the father we all needed just as Bits (LBT1) was walking in. JJ(JJDS) and the others laughed and milled about the cable TV. I do believe the general census was, "The Weather Channel" rocks ! Silky(Silky_43701) lit up the room with her appearance with the Pixies (Janice and Suzy) right behind her. It only took a few seconds before the Pixies fluttered over to the mantle and started sprinkling the pixie dust - like in the old days..:)

Somehow, even though time passed and passes we seem to still know our comfort zones around the bar. Scooby (UncleScooby) bellied up to the bar after a round of hugs shortly before Vickie (Midustouch) stepped to the line for a toast:

"To friends old and new
- to those who have gone before
and those who will come after!
*** Smash***

I then offered this toast:

"To Memories... those of the past and those yet to be made..."
*** Smash ***

as glasses were flying, from the corner the Pixies heard a "tinkle" and sent Tim (TermiteTim) to the folks room or was it back to the bar for a new glass? Others who joined us this special night were Brat (BratNiq), Vortexring, CDR05,GreyLensman, Ruthie, KyMAlex, Fitzaroo, MommaMackie, Vixen514, T-Storm, Ryath3, (Bill) BJSlawn and Maggie(May420)

Message Board News

A note from our Message Board Manager:
I've had some health problems over the last few months. On May 4th I had major surgery to correct some "troubles." I've not been online for awhile and have missed each of you! I expect to back to my Manager's duties by the end of June. Meanwhile, I'll be popping in to visit as often as I can. My thanks to all of you for your posts of care and prayers!

Bits

Our Cortland is always coming up with something <g.> This month he has found an employee hand book with a couple of revisions and Phred (IPRILEY) has decided the flogging should commence anytime now..:)

As we grow older we often wonder what lessons our children should learn. Sylph has started a children book. And Mandy (Iniondia), Jennie (Jennielyn811), Dawn (D_Gray) and JumpinJeanie all had added something to our Life Lessons.

You can learn a lot about a person when you talk hobbies. David (DGBrewer) and Carol (ladylaughing) kicked off a funny thread about refinishing furniture. Actually it started off with lessons about toxic chemicals but soon turned to Tool envy with Silky (Silky45701) and Vickie (Midustouch).

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and The Star Wars saga were topics of discussion both from the movie making aspect and the 'force' of good and evil which lead to a discussion of Jonathan Livingston Seagull's works.

Dawn (D_Gray) is a regular in our poetry folder and in May she gave us Something totally different from my pen to which Cortland replied in kind. Lou (ROSE8364) surprised us all with Ode to a Mosquito (where Lou gave the Ode and Cortland wrote the poem!) Those two work together wonderfully!

Chris (Emettmen) provided us a glimpse at elections in the UK. With the UK election is approaching thread we all took a test to determine if we were more along the lines of the Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Independence Party or Green Party in the UK. Surprisingly enough.. we Callahanians spanned the scale evenly.

Cyberapto2 kicked off The Positive Thinking Quiz back in April and it continued throughout May as we all picked one or two from the list and talked about how they fit into our lives. Cortland is always coming up with something <g> and this month he has found an employee handbook with a couple of revisions. Phred (IPRILEY) has decided that the flogging should commence anytime now.

Joke of The Month

From a comic called Able and Baker:

Able: "I could be a postal worker"
Baker: "I would have thought you'd pick something more exciting"
Able "But postal workers push the envelope!"

Pun of the Month

It is believed that the stock markets go up and down with the rise and fall of the hemlines in ladies skirts and dresses. Proof of this phenomenon is in the following historical facts:

Glamour stocks and mini skirts soared in 1993.
Conglomerates and hemlines went down in the spring of 1994.
Hot pants led the Dow Jones up in 1971.
The advice to the investor then, is:

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

"Don't sell until you see the heights of their thighs!"

Poem of the Month -
"A Sign of Hope"

A sign of hope I saw today,
Along a woody path.
Propped up by my stave,
I made my way,
Along that rough-rock path.

Spring flowers yes,
And new green shoots,
Grew at every side.

Egg shells parted by new-born chicks,
Promised many chirps and warbles.
I even heard a few.
Robin, crow and cardinal,
Kingfisher, goose and crane,
All pleased my passing in that wood.

But then I saw, and held my step,
And dropped my eyes,
And looked away,
While two young people kissed.

A long embrace they held,
As I sought not to break,
Their moment of affection.

As they held twined,
I watched the woods,
Until the gravel stirred.

Then up I looked,
And passed them by,
And eyes and lips exchanged,
A greeting and a smile.

Their joy today,
And mine of long ago,
Both born anew,
As Hope.

Closing Quote

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."
