May none of them arrive too late!"

Manager's Corner

"WreckinSILLYation"

Hi all..

Okay - who comes up with these monthly themes, anyway? And are they still working here?

Shall we do a Spring is here Toga Party and invite the Fall is here crowd? Can Spring and Fall ever be reconciled?

Shall we lament the lack of reconciliation happening around the globe, or join together with a party - or two?

What does it mean to be cloud-hidden, anyway?

All I know is I plan to post and chat often, hard and a bit silly this month as we explore the pithy ramifications of WreckinSillyAction!

Come join me - even if you already think my posts are silly..:)

Conference News

A Conference/Chat report from Sandra:

Andrea was our guest hostess for the "Sled Dogs and Silliness" chat on March 10th. She did an great job with her first official themed conference. I peeked into the room earlier in the day to find her cutting holes in the roof and letting snow pile into the room (hope you don't mind, Lou...she did patch them up at the end of the night.)

It sure was cold in that room too but Andrea was a very gracious hostess and provided us all with snowshoes, parkas, hot toddies & hot chocolate upon arrival.

The sled races started out slow. It seemed like the dogs were more interested in the snacks then the race. TermiteTim stopped in and teased my poodle racing team. Rdsb toasted all the teams and wished us luck. Fireman was there too but we had to disqualify him for using a Nascar racing car instead of a sled. We were concerned for his reputation if he lost to the dogs.

KaptnKate, and her team of mutts, led by "Might Mutt the Wonder Dog" were the most menacing in the race. Kate must have spent hours training with those guys, they were amazing. I tried to blindfold "Mighty Mutt" but Kate caught on and slowed my team down by leaving a trail of milk bones for the poodles. Somehow my team ended up in Albuquerque. Carol's team of Pugs really seemed to enjoy being dragged by her. She dragged and dragged those guys until they finally decided she was a bit slow for them. Then they suddenly whipped into action and ran neck and neck with Kate's Wondermutts.

Nghnam arrived late and the only team left were the ChiChi Chihuahuas. Standing tall upon his sled and proclaiming, "Yo quiero, Brittany!", Nam led his chi-chis from fire hydrant to fire hydrant. We think maybe they were hitting the tequila earlier in the night with the Taco Bell Dog, who had made a celebrity appearance earlier on.

My dogs made another detour and somehow found their way through Texas. It was a bit slow through the dirt. Carol and Kate's teams were also neck and neck near the finish line. It looked like Carol's team would take the win when suddenly one of her precious pugs decided it was break time and joined Nam's ChiChis at the hydrants. Kate's team, smelling victory, swung around and flew over the finish line just a mutt's nose ahead of Carol's Pugs.

Nghnam, still proclaiming, "Yo quiero, Brittany" slid in just behind Carol and me, well, my team was last seen riding the roller coaster in Disney World.

Several other friends stopped in to view the races. Bits, unaware of the use or need for snowshoes, sat cozily by the fire sipping a benediction. Fuzzy and JayJ were in but escaped just before the races began. Fuzzy mentioned something about the stinky wet dog smell and we think JayJ went to look up the word "denizens"

Andrea kept everyone up to pace with her colorful play by play announcements and also presented the winner with a lovely dog-shaped trophy. Nam presented Carol with plastic dog doodles and Sandy sent a telegram from Bermuda directing Andrea to put the whole thing on Fuzzy's tab.

And a report from Sandra for Legends and Limericks Night:

What better night than March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, than to have a Legends and Limericks night! Fuzzy, our able-bodied 'tender and his cohost, ROBMAGUS were all decked out in green and ready to roll.

The night started our when our friend NGHNAM stopped by and immediately jumped in with a limerick. Nam chose a traditional limerick and was rewarded with the sounds of crickets chirping in the bar. Unfortunately, that didn’t deter him, though JAYJ did eventually have to douse him with ice water...eek! IPRILEY, who was the most prolific limericker of the night, jumped in with an interesting perspective on limericks:
"A limerick packs a laugh astronomical.
Into space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I’ve seen...
So seldom are clean.
And the clean ones so seldom are comical."

Hee! Good one Ipriley and so true! As Fuzzy passed out the green beer and shamrocks, Robmagus dipped his toe into the limerick pool. Nice dippages, Rob! Rob and IPRILEY continued to trade limericks all night.

STUBUM was in and shared a limerick about "a gal name Claire who possessed a fine pair"... unfortunately they found out later that they were all full of air, lol Cute one STUBUM! MIKE IRISH also surprised us with a visit. After all, what would St. Patricks Day be without a little MIRISH. We’re so happy that you’ve been able to stop in again, Mike! Carol (ladylaughing) stopped by for a while too.

Carol is so enamored with punning now that she just couldn’t help herself. Good thing we stocked up on the peanuts. Jennie stopped in just in time to hear JAYJ professing that her star was a symbol of her innocence and goodness. Unfortunately, FUZZY had dropped a bucket on her head and Jennie was unable to comment. As the evening wore on, there were visits from Fast Eddie, Tesla, and Lucky Duck too. Thank you Fuzzy and Rob for making our Callahans St. Paddy’s Day celebration such an eventful one!

Message Board News

From Carol:

JayJ made a journey though the park in her new tennis shoes and was attacked by the horrible Gob… Read Jayj’s adventures in All Gummed up.

The Classic book Flowers for Algernon was assigned to Carol’s son as a school reading assignment. Almost everyone agrees this is a timeless classic.

As we age do we begin to view the world differently? This was the underlying question in Was Animal House, the movie, a classic ?

Illegal Immigration was a hot topic in March. After a spirited discussion we found Pros and Cons but no decisive answers - but we are still talking about it..:)

Pun of the Month

A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee."

The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee."

Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee"

The astonished husband replied, "I can't believe that, show me."

So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says.. .

Poem of the Month -
"Butterfly Melodies"

So long ago, sweet laughter’s melody,
Like butterflies on breezes soft and warm,
Floated through the air quite naturally
And bore no artifice or hint of scorn.

There was no riddle, nothing circumspect,
No strings to pull and nothing to contrive,
The blight crept in with withering neglect,
There was no death, just a failure to thrive.

That youthful season drew to close too soon,
And like the butterflies of yonder glen,
The melody retired to dark cocoon,
Resounding silence swiftly marked the end.

In keeping fresh the mem’ry of the song
A too-short season lasts a whole life long
