"Family Reconciliation"

Hi all..

Family Reconciliation.. More words imbued with great power and emotion - and perhaps some magic. For reconciliation can beget reconciliation - especially within families.

As we explore Family Reconciliation this month, we'll almost certainly discuss what constitutes a family, and then on to what causes families to be torn apart and what sometimes allows such rifts to be healed.

Few institutions are in need of reconciliation as much as "Family." Families suffer the pain of death, the joys of marriage and child-birth, more often and more keenly than political or social organizations. And the stresses of these events often lead to rift.

We hope you'll join us in discussing rift and reconciliation within families this month. Sharing your insights and experiences with the rest of us may give solace, or a good idea, to someone in need.

You never know..:)

Conference News

A short SuperBowl Party addendum from Carol:

SuperBowl Sunday was a huge hit in Callahans. JayJ served up drinks and handed out the flags for both the Patriots and the Eagles. The Book of Rumors now has Fuzzy in a Cheerleading shirt or outfit
- Could be just a rumor but you never know..:)

Message Board News

From Carol:

Parrish3 has found her way back to Callahans! We missed her presence ~ Welcome back. Upon her return she gave us a glimpse of her love and life with her I'll Love you forever thread. Now we're all a little more conscientious about putting our socks in the hamper..:)

Mike Irish ask the question way back Oct but the Gathering 2005 has finally been set and confirmed! Yah! The Callahanians are gathering again.

In this Saloon we have a group of avid readers, listeners, and movie goers. Linda S (HooptieDoo) asked an important question When a favorite author fails you. Do we expect our authors to be consistent in their writings ?

Our condolences are extended to the family and friends of Jack L. Chalker. A toast was made in his honor and please do read his bibliography.

Spider Robinson's Callahans Crosstime Saloon has now been released on CD from Blackstone Audio! The question of how one could get this book on audio was asked in here 5 years ago. The denizens were creative then <g> but now it is out there at a very reasonable rate.

The question was posed Have you read Callahan's Crosstime Saloon? Some surprising answers came forth..:)

Spyder(SpyderLady60) came to Callahans one dark and stormy night (wait that is for the Tall Tales Night) and asked the age old question... Why do we need to use labels to identify people in her Liberal/Conserative - Far Left/Far Right thread.

Polls are always fun, some thought provoking and some just silly.. Take a gander at these fun polls:
Is the U.K an Island?,
Is it stealing when you take home supplies home from work and
.... We even questioned the integrity of Pizza in Pizza Should be ...

"Shared Pain is lessened,
Shared Joy increased.
Thus do we refute empathy" is the motto of Callahans but sometimes we reach out and ask the question What is hope We find that each of us may define it differently but the underlying belief is the same.

Joke of The Month

The other day I was walking down the street and stopped in at a bar. After I had been there a few minutes, a priest, a rabbi and a minister walked in.

The bartender looked at them and said,

"What is this? A joke?"

Pun of the Month

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped right in front of the car.

The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit.

Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead. The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry.

A beautiful young woman driving down the highway sees the man crying on the side of the road and pulls over.

She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong.

"I feel terrible," he explains, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it."

The blonde says, "Don't worry." and runs to her car and pulls out a spray can.

She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, bent down, and sprayed the contents onto the rabbit.

The rabbit jumped up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road.

Ten feet away the rabbit stopped, turned around and waved again, he hopped down the road another 10 feet, turned and waved, hops another ten feet, turned and waved, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hopped completely out of sight.

The man was astonished and ran over to the woman and asked, "What's in that can? What did you spray on that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said.. .

Poem of the Month -
"I Like The Me I Am With You"

Whatever changes we go through,
you help me be the best I can;
I like the me I am with you.

You show me, constantly, a true
and equal partner. We can plan,
whatever changes. We'll go through.

You mirror me; I see you view
me, good and bad, one whole loved man.
I like the me I am through you.

You give myself to me; renew
my trust that who we are will span
whatever changes we go through.

You make me feel I don't have to
pretend to be a better man;
I like me as I am, with you.

The people who are 'us' -- we two
had constancy since we began.
Whatever changes, we go through.
I like me, as I am with you.

Christmas 2001
For my beloved wife LizKat
