My Holiday Wish is that each and every one of us will find
a "deeper meaning" in our lives, following whatever
path that leads us to that goal.

Manager's Corner
Hi all..
Callahan's had a great 10th Calliversary year and we look
to the future knowing that things will only get better..
Gathering 2003 in Cincinatti was a high point for me but
there were also new friends made and a new management team
formed during the year that helped make the year (my 7th
as Manager!) special for me. Welcome and thanks to all..:)
When I say we had a great year, I don't mean we didn't have
some difficulties or that all of our patrons and friends
were perfectly happy in their lives. What I mean is that
we continued to share. Callahans is about sharing joy and
sorrow. Sharing dreams, beliefs, ideas, memories.. lives.
We've shared some sorrow this year.. but we've also celebrated
great joys together.. and I know we will continue to share both
into the future. It's what brings us together. I'm grateful
to you all.. for making Callahans so special..:)
Operation Butterball was a wonderful success this year! 2082
gifts with an approximate value of 10,400 dollars were
given! Thanks to all of you who donated your time and money
to local charities - and especially to Sandra and Sue - who
co-chaired the drive this year..:)

From Bits:
December 2003 Theme: Travel
We wrapped up our year-long observance of "Callahan’s Saloon,
10 Years on Delphi Forums" during December, and we posted
and chatted about all sorts of travel.
"The Outpost" was open for "Speculations"
chat on Sunday, 21 December 2003. Those in attendance took turns
leading tours of our favorite places to visit. The Big Question
of the night was: Did JayJ and Bits
leave Fuzzy stranded in the Everglades?
A few lines from Walt about two Saturday chats:
Saturday Matinees got more active than usual over the holidays,
with many regulars, some oldtimers returning, and several
newcomers. In addition to me, JayJ, and Fuzzy, Dusty
dropped in, as did Amber and
Dragonwing M. Returning after a long absence
was Professor108. Unfortunately, the Professor
suffered a broken leg in non-cyber life, so we made sure he got
the big comfy blue recliner so he could keep the leg elevated.
Newcomers who came in on the 27th included Saarkaru,
Sistaaa, Pleure, and BR12349.
Two days after New Year's, it was Walt, JJ, Fuzzy, and Dusty again.
We were joined by Bits, Sandy, Mitzi, and Cortland.
DA51D, a frequent visitor, came by.
New friends included Teaster5 and
Terry Tee. Drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
and conversation flowed freely, and good times were had by all.
Recent movies and NFL playoffs were discussed as well as a
myriad of other topics.
"Saturday Matinee" at Callahans takes place every
Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. eastern time.
Message Board News
The
Tourist or Traveler thread asked folks about what
kind of traveler they were: an active traveler looking for things, or
a tourist who takes in things as they come along.
Els (MSELSA) posted a link to her last trip to
Australia, she enjoys being both a traveler and a tourist, as does
Fuzzy. Kethryn (WULFKUB), Jennielyn, and
Dave Hause are travelers. Katie (CATKATIE1)
prefers the slower pace of touring.
Check out the ‘essentials’ that our denizens carry with them whenever
they travel in the
I Always Bring.. thread. The
What is Your Favorite Mode of Transportation thread
was enlightening. Aelith gets around in a Ford Escort.
Jenn (DEVILSGIRL3) doesn’t even know how to classify
her Subie, Sue loves her Blazer, and Mandy
is hoping for a motorized wheel chair. Sylphidine
loves to use the subways, but she also gave us the exciting
news that she had walked three miles recently (go Sylph!). Kethryn
likes sports cars and horses, while Cortland would
prefer a ‘transporter’. Our water lovers were Chris (EMETTMAN),
who loves narrow boats in the canals, and Jennielyn,
who prefers sailboats. Dawn (D GRAY) walks,
while Louisa runs!
"Helen A Handcart" was the classiest one
of the bunch, she prefers a limo!
Operation Butterball 2003!
(A Review by Bits:)
The denizens of Callahan’s Saloon shared themselves (in some cases
literally), their time, their money, and their talent during this
year’s Operation Butterball. Sandy and Sue promoted, encouraged, and
tallied the gifts. We asked folks to give a little something to
their communities on behalf of Callahan’s and they responded
generously.
This year we gave food and money to local food banks, food drives,
and individual families:
Ilyana donated 800 pounds of pumpkins that she
grew herself!
We also gave to some well known groups, including: Toys for Tots,
The Salvation Army, and Magen David Odam.
We sent personal care items and cards to troops serving in Iraq.
We gave things directly to those in need: A hat given on the spot to
a person who was cold!
We gave items to a family whose house had burned down and checks
to people on a strike line.
We provided coats for kids
We gave of ourselves by donating blood to a blood bank and hair to
make wigs for those with a medical need.
We cleared driveways of snow.
We sent cards to children in a children’s hospital, and donated
money to local clinics and senior centers.
We donated dog kennels to a shelter and kept dogs waiting for
adoption.
We delivered food baskets to homes and party baskets to fire stations.
We donated books to a local children’s foster care home.
We sang carols and danced.
One denizen had a woman and her children, from an abuse shelter,
into her home for dinner.
FOAF and his wife donated an "Ark" to an international
charity, which would be used to purchase things like: flocks of
chicks, sheep, rabbits, beehives, llamas, camels, donkeys, goats,
oxen, cows, geese, and other animals to help families abroad.
Congratulations to the creative and giving people at Callahan’s
Saloon for providing 2082 gifts this year!

Joke of The Month
A woman arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting
for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the gates.
She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her
parents and all the other people she had loved and who had
died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to
her, "Hello, How are you? We've been waiting for you!
Good to see you."
When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is
such a wonderful place! How do I get in ?" "You have
to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.
"Which word?" the woman asked.
"Love."
The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter
welcomed her into Heaven.
About a year later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked
her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.
While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband
arrived. "I'm surprised to see you," the woman
said. "How have you been ?"
"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died,"
her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young
nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I
won the multi-state lottery. I sold the little house you
and I lived in and bought a huge mansion And, my wife and
I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in
Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head,
and here I am. What a bummer. How do I get in ?"
"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.
"Which word ?" her husband asked.
"Czechoslovakia."
Poem of the Month -
"Pocketknife"
redshifts and blueshifts
lines are killin me again
but hey who said flyin is a sin
the power to live
is something to die for
I have no more to give
I pour salt in my own sores
but the more skin I peel
the more I heal
the further I slide the blade
the more that pain comes to my aid
I never handed it over to you
all I would've gave to you
but you stole my knife
and slid it in my heart
