Opening Toast

"Here's to healing rifts
and internet chat places
where you can go and unburden your soul..
and find much merriment and understanding!"

*** Smash! ***

- Kate (KaptinKate) April 29, 2002

Manager's Corner

Hi all..

April was one of those "Interesting" months at Callahans.

We had a serious discussion about what might or might not be offensive within a folder designed for those not easily offended, and then whether or not quoting from email on the board is ethical.. And to complicate matters, in that discussion an email forgery came to light.

I watched tumultuous, sometimes gut-wrenching events take place in recent weeks such as I've never seen before and yet have watched proudly as the community responded with loving kindness and good will.. I hope you are all as proud as I am..:)

And to make matters better, we have a new 'tender at Callahans! Bee (LADY_GEEZA) has joined us as a conference 'tender. She has since been opening rooms every day of the week but as you can see from our new chat calendar, you can expect to find her during her "Sunday Brunch" conference on Sundays.

You may want to have a look at our chat calendar if you haven't seen it lately - and then thank Carol for its new and highly readable format. She *made* us change it..:)

We look forward in May to an exploration of Latin cultures.. And maybe a Cinco de Mayo party..

See you there..:)

Conference News

From Carol:

We have a new conference schedule guaranteed to tickle your funny bone.

Tim (Brunotim) will be hosting "Tall Tales Night" on alternating Tuesdays with our traditional "Punday" hosted by Grey(GreyLensman) and Ron (Southron.)

Cane(Caneguru) will be taking the "Raising Cane" conference to alternating Friday Nights.

Walt(WWW3) will be jumping from Wednesday Midweek to Saturday for a night of laughter with "Saturday Matinee."

Carol(Ladylaughing) (that's me!) will be moving from "Friday Follies" over to Wednesday nights with "Talking ‘bout Your Generation," where the discussion may range from school politics to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Taxes, Taxes and more Taxes.....Its over (for this year anyway)! Poetry chat is back up and going full verse on alternate Thurdsays in Nitric(url). Poetry chats have been on hold for a while as our dedicated TaxHombre (Peter) has spent many hours wading through the tax paperwork of cute ladies with accents <veg.> Welcome Back to Poetry, Peter. We've missed it.

Sandy(Misss) continues to let the conversation flow from serious, to outrageously funny with "This ‘N That" on the alternating Thursdays.

Brigitte(Sprockies) also continues with "Monday Madness" This is one ‘tender who knows how to kick off the work week..:)

Shane(Shane) serves up the perfect God’s Blessing to end the short weekend on "Sunday Evening Chat."

Our legendary Mike (Miirish) keeps the late night crowd going with his antics starting at 12:30 AM with "Late Night with Mike " early Friday mornings (aka late Thursday night.)

Bee (LadyGeeza) is developing quite a following in her almost daily conferences from the U.K. She can be found can be found serving up the scones and omletts as she hosts "Sunday Brunch in Callahan’s" Sundays at 11:00 m eastern.

All this is reflected in our new Chat Calendar! Callahan’s Saloon is open 24/7/365. Check in anytime of the day, you may be surprised how often you find someone in chat. Or.. hey, feel free to open the saloon at anytime. Someone will be along shortly..:)

If you have a special topic you would like to host or discuss in a Callahan's chat - just drop us a note at calssaloon@delphiforums.com.

As Lou mentioned above, our new chat calendar is more readable and easier to decipher. We hope you like it..:)

Poem of the Month - "Flight"

Roaring engines full throttle gravity refusing
to release the body while the mind surges ahead
landing at the final destination. I start to relax
and accept the confinement.

Passing into clouds seems much like death should be
only soft cotton to walk on through the gates.
Floating weightless sightless with no landmarks
to guide you yet you reach the proper destination
at your appointed time.

It is a test, practice for the final reward,
played out thousands of times a day but
the score taken only for those called
to the check in counter.

I look at my number and try to count how long before I
walk the clouds, but tears blur the date
for I have not completed my destiny.
Unfinished is the mission, left unsaid are the words
Important is the task though unknown.

The bell rings, the door opens
the cows hurry along the paths
and into the stanchions in anticipation
of relief from the full udders.

One follows the other as the second follows the first,
onward like dominoes that only need a slight tip
to crash down on its neighbor;
through the open door.

Freedom and grounded again
back from a preview of heaven
with time to fulfill our destiny.

- JP (JP8) April 18

Closing Quote

"Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head. "
