To Callahan's Outpost and all its denizens... *** Smash *** Silky Hi all.. I am very pleased to announce that Carol became our Conference Board Manager last month after JP received a well deserved promotion at work and found he could no longer serve our Community in that role. JP remains as a 'tender though and we hope to see more of him as he adjusts to his new job. Carol had been coordinating special conferences for JP and was a natural replacement as Conference Manager. I have high hopes that, notwithstanding the challenges we face with pChat, Carol will soon find a way to bring scheduled conferences back to Callahans every night of the week - and special conferences regularly. Please thank Carol for accepting the responsibility for this important work for our community. Another milestone this month is the Grand Opening of The Outpost.. our zero gravity conference room designed and built by bits.. See and enjoy her Announcment. And yet another milestone! And *what* a milestone! David and Elizabeth Kate were married in North Carolina on July 7th.. And they've sent us photos.. Elizabeth Kate has written about how she fell in love in From Meeting to Marriage. and I know you'll love her remembrance.. And finally - it's here..! The Callahan's Gathering 2001 in Boston begins at the end of this month. We have about 30 people scheduled to meet at the DoubleTree Club - Bayside in Boston over the U.S. Labor Day weekend. And it's not too late to join us! Contact me..:) I am *so* ready! July was hot & sizzling in Callahans. We had our Grand Opening of the Outpost on July 29th and we know you'll love bits' account..:) The legendary Mike Irish returned to late nights. Every Thursday night/Friday morning Mike can be found donning an apron and setting up first call in "Late Night" at Callahans... From Mike: Late night was blessed with 4 new patrons on its first night: crzy4logan, parisite2, hexadecimals and professor103 joined us as well as Brunotim. The main topic of the chat was food from fondue parties to venison and wild boar and of course the question "What is the weirdest thing you have ever consumed?" was brought up. I'll take pity on Bar Rag readers and skip the answers...:) I hope Late Night chat grows. I would like to get more folks into the late night chat area... Any suggestions to help are welcome. All in all it was a very nice chat. Join Poetry Night at 10:00 P.M. eastern - then hang out with Mike for midnight call..:) Punday Night returns to its alternate Tuesday summer schedule beginning this month. See our Chat Calendar for details. From Brigitte: Monday Night Madness saw the return of old faces! Michele859 dropped in for a bit, some of you may remember her as Maeve. Also Mallie, a long time patron came in for a while, both seem to be doing well. Lots of others dropped in, among them Ken and Jenn (3rddan) also Zendragyn. Many topics were discussed from skydiving to martial arts! From Walt: Friday Follies On Friday, 07/27/01, after the regular Friday Follies chat, we were visited by an old patron who brought along a new patron. _Meg used to attend the Poetry Chats and was extremely interested to find out Peter was still holding them. _Meg plans to attend the next Poetry Chat. Morteus is a vampire and he was assured that would not be a problem as Callahans welcomes all creatures, including vampires, dragons, lycanthropes, various faerie, time travelers, etc. Welcome back, _Meg! Scooby told us one night that he was both frightened and excited about buying a new house. Way to go, Scooby! Mitzi stepped behind the bar this month to serve up a few drink and stroll down Memory Lane in "The Way We Were in Callahans." The talk turned from GO CU 6 and GO REL CAL to everyone reminiscing about the days when Mitzi was hosting regular Wednesday nights to... all kinds of things..:) Elizabeth Kate's posted a warm remembrance of meeting, falling in love and marrying David in From Meeting to Marriage. Please do yourself a great favor have a look..:) More Board News from Silky: Once again, our group of folks here at Cal's were all over the map with their topics in General Discussion. The month got off to a fairly predictable start with a few carry-over topics from June. I, even more predictably, got myself in trouble toward the end of June, that I don't think ever got resolved. Isn't it funny how you can be in more than one place at one time? Must be that non-linear nature of time thing. Carol was suffering a tad after an overdose of Arbot Mist and heavy cream. Luckily Carol recovered... or at least we think she did. Chad started us all off on a 'trek' through memory with his Greetings and Felicitations thread, where he asked us what our favorite Star Trek lines were. Buncha Trekkies live here. (And now *I* have 'Star Trekkin' running through my head....sheesh!) BrunoTim got sympathy and laughs for both himself and his lady wife in his thread about a stranger that.. er.. mistook... his way whilst under the influence. I think we could all identify with what Tim's wife was feeling, but it was rather funny... and quite, quite Callahanian in its improbability as Tim himself said.) Dwarvenkind posted one of his creations using Bryce, and set Carol, and a few others, off on an adventure of discovery. Very nice work dk. And one of those things that makes your fingers itch to create. Thanks for sharing that with us. Lou got us all fired up over the Gathering when he told us that we really, really needed to make our room reservations, in Crunch Time. And the inimitable KenWa made an appearance (finally!) in that thread. Welcome home Ken! Cstar and I got up to a bit of mischief, (NO! Who? Us?), in ::giggle::, Who's Cooler? , Which Babe Would You Go For? and Callahan's Virtual Coffee Company. I dunno who thinks up Cstar's poll questions... but whoever it is, is a tad strange! Tim asked us what was the weirdest job we'd ever had. Some pretty peculiar jobs in that thread! And Sandy and Cstar got into silly mode in Keepers of the Socks Unite!!! and Next Round's on Tim!!!! <g> Ya think Tim is ever gonna do *that* again Sandy? Has your other half twigged to what you are doin to his poor socks yet? Birthday Greetings were heartily extended to:
Calliversaries Last Month Chad (SHEAR2) continues to Calliversaries! If you'd like to find out the date you first came to Callahan's, just post here, and we'll be wishing you a "Happy Calliversary" some time in the next year!
A note from Chad: *Most* of the Calliversary dates appear to be correct, but if you see one that isn't, please let us know. "I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, natural, wholesome things that money can buy." - Steve Martin Poem of the Month - "Scorched Earth Policy"
