Meet Sylph!

Photo of Sylph

The things that govern Sylph's life are [in no particular order]: cats; books; music; science; philosophy; Nature. She has always lived in urban and suburban settings but has been active in environmental conservation and reclamation since childhood.

Her fulltime paid employment was that of children's literature bookseller & purchasing agent; on the side she is a comic book, anime and science fiction media dealer, specializing in British sci-fi like DOCTOR WHO.

She is married to her business partner who introduced her to the collectibles field, but they have each developed their own knowledge-niche specialties. She divides her unpaid hours between astronomy, languages [written, mathematical, musical and technical], and pop culture [comic books, British comedy and science fiction fandom holding down the majority of her attention in that regard.] She is a fairly recent inductee into the realms of the online world, since her technophobia was cured in 1996.

At present, she is cat-less, but cherishes the memory of Phinneas the Odd-Eyed Rogue, who once joined the Callahan's crew on a trip to Pluto.

Sylph reads at a prodigious rate and on her nightstand one can usually find three or four books being read simultaneously, covering anything from physics to erotica to science fiction to anthropology to container gardening. There is always music playing in her house...blues, electronic, classical, Eighties dance club, album rock, jazz... Her house, built in 1914, has ghosts, but they seem to be a very merry sort, of the type to be readily caught in the act of "bending elbows" at Callahan's.... at least the formerly human ghosts. The ghost cats, of course, prefer tuna.......

More from a post from Sylph in a thread about "The Power of Names":

My full name, although it does not fit on a Delphi nick screen, is Sylphidine V. A. [for Vivacious Anodyne] Gallimaufry, Wordsmith by Appointment. But you may call me Sylph.

My name was cobbled together twenty-three years ago by me & and my oldest and dearest friend, my collaborator, my editorial fiend and tormentor, and my literary executor, the horror writer Frank Raymond Michaels. Its origins lie in our mutual love affair with Roget's Thesaurus.

I am a joiner of words and a romancer of them as well... my strength in story-smithery lies in refinement rather than in creation.
